Restructuring

Structural challenges can arise within departments or across the whole organisation.

External events or internal service demands may require changes to be made and these will affect the various resources in your organisation and how these are structured. We can support your management teams in delivering the changes via a number services:

Structural reviews

By conducting a structural review we will attempt to expose any areas requiring attention. Analyse our findings before providing a report detailing the findings and our recommendations for improving your organisational structure.

Implementing Change

Change to the organisational structure will impact on all areas of your delivery. Planning for change is imperative to consider the outcome of any change programme and with varied sector experiences our team come with a wealth of project experiences that can support success in the delivery of your programme.

Consultation

Our experienced team of professionals are familiar with the legal and practical details of collective and individual consultation and, working directly with our Employment Law team, are ideally placed to produce and conduct programmes that support your change programmes.

Policy Procedure Review

Having a clear direction and ‘way of doing things’ is important to ensure the effectiveness of your functioning. We will review your policies and procedures to ensure these are consistent and reflect where your organisation wants to go in the future.

Mediation

Employee relations issues can be extremely complex and time-consuming, especially if not handled in the correct manner. Where there has been a disagreement between employees, you may wish to engage us to attempt to improve relations between parties through workplace mediation. This will help evidence that you have supported your employees by trying to create a more positive workplace.

One of our trained mediators will treat the issue with the appropriate sensitivity, drawing on expert techniques to improve the situation and seek a positive outcome.

Formal Processes – Investigations

A robust and comprehensive investigation will not only give you the answers that you need,  but will also protect you in the employment tribunal.  In addition to the typical grievance and misconduct issues we can also investigate:

Formal Processes – Disciplinary and Grievance Hearings

Preparing and holding formal hearings can be exceptionally time consuming for any organisation, irrespective of whether they are supported by an internal HR team.  Our consultants work with your management team to deliver a technically and professionally managed event aligned to the ACAS code of practice.

Collective Consultation

Redundancies can be both mentally and emotionally draining, especially during collective consultation. In the unfortunate situation where your organisation needs to carry out redundancies, we are there to help. We can alleviate some of the complexity of the collective consultation process, whether this is by providing hands-on support, remote advice, or strategic guidance in how best to proceed.

Staff Surveys

Getting a general feeling of employee engagement can be a useful starting point for implementing any substantial changes or projects within your organisation. Having an idea in advance of how staff are likely to respond can only be advantageous going forward. However, for a variety of reasons, staff surveys may be best conducted by an external, impartial party.

From recruitment through to the last working day there are opportunities to assess a candidate or an employees experience of your organisation.  We can conduct staff surveys to measure engagement, satisfaction, or opinions surrounding any number of organisational issues. Whether you want to assess the ‘general feeling in camp’ prior to imposing a significant change; receive feedback on a new initiative; or simply ask staff what they would like to see in the organisation in the future, we can develop a survey tailored to your needs that supports how your organisation measures success.

Workplace Benefits

There is an increasing expectation placed on employers not only to offer excellent pay, but an attractive workplace benefits package, in order to retain and secure talent. We can either review and update your current benefits scheme, or implement an entirely new one.

Researching best practice from peer organisations and the wider employment market, we will form recommendations for an attractive workplace benefits package which is tailored to your organisation. If required, we can tie this in with looking at a Performance Related Pay (PRP) or bonus scheme for employees.

Job Evaluation

In trying to devise a fair and transparent pay structure, one of the first steps is typically to establish the internal worth of the posts within your organisation. Formal Job Evaluation can be conducted as part of a pay structure projects or equal pay claims.   Alongside one-to-one evaluation interviews with staff we conduct an audit of documentation, including current job descriptions and person specifications. This will allow us to map out the specific role of each individual post.  In trying to devise a fair and transparent pay structure, one of the first steps is typically to establish the internal worth of the posts within your organisation.

This service usually precedes external pay benchmarking, which tends to be the next logical step in creating a pay structure for your organisation. If required, we can carry out the whole service from job evaluation right through to pay structure creation as a larger project.

Pay Benchmarking

In an increasingly busy jobs market, organisations must ensure they are offering a competitive salary. We can conduct external pay benchmarking for your organisation, using a variety of sources to establish where your level of pay is situated within the wider sector. 

In discussion with you, the recommendations we form will be based on where you want to situate yourself relative to the ‘going rate’, taking into account what is realistic for your specific organisation.

This service typically tends to follow job evaluation which culminates in the creation of a fair and transparent pay structure.

Pay Structures

For the sake of clarity, employee motivation and avoiding any potential equal pay challenges, it is in your best interest to have a consistent, fair, and transparent pay structure throughout the organisation. We can either review and update your current pay strategy and structure, or implement a new one.

We would typically expect creation of a pay structure to be the last step in a process which also includes job evaluation and pay benchmarking. Job evaluation allows us firstly to establish the internal worth of specific posts; and benchmarking enables us to compare internal salaries to the wider market rate for comparable posts.

The combination of these two sources of information will assist in deciding how to most effectively structure pay. We will decide this in consultation with you to ensure any solution is realistic and suitably tailored to the needs of your organisation.
