Employment Law

Advisory Service

At the core of our support for your organisation is the employment law advisory service which we offer. You can use this on a ‘pay as you go’ basis, however most of our clients prefer to opt for our annual renewal contract. This provides you with unlimited access to remote advice from our experienced team of employment lawyers. Our phone and email lines are always manned throughout business hours, meaning our expert advice is available immediately. If more appropriate, we are also happy to meet with you in person to discuss any issues.

We actively encourage use of the advisory service whenever required, providing you with personal contact details of our lawyers to encourage a close relationship from the very start of our journey together. As such, our advice will be tailored to your specific organisation, and the specific member of staff with whom we are dealing. For example, a junior HR team member may require more of a ‘hand-holding’ style of delivery; whereas a senior practitioner may use the service as a sounding board or sense check function. Furthermore, we understand that staying on the right side of employment law is often not your only goal, so we always deliver our advice in a commercial and practical manner.

Finally, unlike other legal practices, we only employ fully qualified lawyers. This way, the advice you receive will always be reliable and consistent.

Our employment law advisory service is at the core of our support for your organisation, providing:

Tribunal Representation

Having agreement on a fixed level of fees is very attractive to most organisations. We have taken this on board and applied it to a notoriously tricky area for this: employment tribunals.

When you become a Navigator client, you will be protected by our unique financial guarantee. Under this guarantee, all fees incurred through us preparing and representing you at employment tribunal are covered by our insurers. There is one condition: you must have sought and followed advice from us prior to taking action against any employee. Of course, it is your decision whether or not to follow our advice, however choosing not to do so may restrict your level of cover under our financial guarantee.

In addition, the policy will cover any awards of compensation payable if you are unsuccessful at tribunal. So, if you receive notification of a tribunal, simply notify us and have peace of mind that we will take care of the rest.

Summary

We can provide a unique financial guarantee in relation to representation at employment tribunal, including:

Updating

We understand how difficult it is to keep up to date with recent developments, so leave it to us to make life easier for you with a number of free tools.

On a monthly basis, we will circulate an electronic newsletter on employment law and HR matters. This makes you aware of recent changes, and any upcoming changes in the short to medium-term. The newsletter also draws attention towards real-world tribunal outcomes which may shape future decisions and, lastly, highlights our forthcoming training and events which might be of interest to you.

Every six months, we host free ‘Employment Law Update’ breakfast seminars around the country to which you are encouraged to send delegates. This provides a demonstrable CPD element for some, but also acts as a useful forum for managers, directors and HR professionals all facing similar organisational issues.

Around each anniversary of our partnership with you, we will arrange a further meeting at your premises to take stock. The meeting will be used to gauge any changes on the horizon for your organisation with legal or HR implications. It is also an opportunity to offer an update on legislation or best practice developments ahead.

We will keep you up to date with any recent or upcoming changes which may affect your organisation, including:

Audit

At the beginning of our relationship, we can audit your suite of policies and procedures, involving a thorough review of any employment documentation within your organisation.

The initial stage of the audit involves an on-site meeting followed by a more in-depth, off-site audit by one of our specialist employment law team. This process will culminate in our written report and suggested action list. Afterwards, we will arrange a further meeting to discuss findings, identify solutions and establish a plan to implement any agreed actions. Any advice provided will always be practical.

We will update, amend, and even draft bespoke policies and procedures from scratch to ensure these reflect current developments in employment law and HR best practice. Our team will also ensure policies are ‘fit for purpose’ in correspondence with the business needs of your organisation.

And the audit continues throughout the course of our relationship. We appreciate that you will have to review, amend, update, discard, create and add to your suite of policies and procedures as time moves on or statutory requirements change. Whether it is instructing us to create a new policy from scratch, or simply passing an already polished procedure under the eyes of our team, please draw upon our knowledge at any time and our team will support you.

Summary

We will carry out a thorough review of your employment law documentation, including:
