IOSH Managing Safely for Independent Schools in Scotland

IOSH Managing Safely is designed to provide anyone in a working role with the knowledge and confidence to drive safe working practices, and to promote a positive health and safety culture within their organisation.

What will it cover?

This thought provoking and practical course covers seven modules:

  1. Introduction to Managing Safely – the case for good management of health and safety in the workplace as well as the responsibilities for keeping people safe.
  2. Assessing risks – what is a risk assessment and how to carry one out.
  3. Controlling risk – how to reduce risk and to decide on the most appropriate way to control it.
  4. Understanding responsibilities – legal responsibilities, how the law works, and the key components of a successful health and safety management system.
  5. Understanding hazards – common workplace hazards and what can be done to control them.
  6. Investigating incidents – why accidents happen, and how to carry out an incident investigation.
  7. Measuring performance – how do you measure health and safety performance.

How will it be assessed?

At the end of the course there are two assessments. The first is a closed book multiple choice exam, and the second is a practical risk assessment project which delegates take back to their workplace to complete (this must be returned for marking within two weeks of the end of the course).

Why should you attend?

  • The course is delivered over four days (over four consecutive weeks) and is only open to those working for or representing independent schools in Scotland.
  • Navigator has conducted health & safety audits of 20 independent schools in Scotland over the last few years. This is more than any other health & safety consultancy and so our experience of the independent school sector in Scotland is unmatched
  • The course is delivered by Gary Foggo, our Director of Health & Safety Services and who has delivered the SCIS Health & Safety Masterclass for the last four years; another demonstration of our deep knowledge of the sector…
  • As a result of Gary’s knowledge of the sector, we are able to weave into the syllabus, independent school-specific examples of role plays and workshop activities which will help those from the sector feel that the course is tailored to their working environments.

What will the cost be?

£425 + VAT per delegate.

Where will the course take place?

This will be an in person event, held in our offices at 1 – 4 Atholl Crescent, Edinburgh, EH3 8HA.
