Last year, the Information Commissioner’s Office issued an enforcement notice and fined a number of not-for-profit organisations, including HIV Scotland, ICO warning after Scottish charity reveals personal data in email error | ICO following investigation of a data breach which identified how the organisation had failed to implement appropriate level of organisational and technical security.
Data protection should form part of any business’s review of legal compliance to help minimise risks of costly and reputationally damaging penalties.
